Services Offered by Maxim
The examination of security components and the reporting of the findings are Maxim's primary work. These components may be the front door lock of a house, office or factory, the ignition lock of a boat, but in most instances it will be the ignition lock or engine immobiliser system of the family car.
Often, the recovered vehicle will have been burnt out and the culprit may feel all evidence of the theft incident has perished with the vehicle. The examination of a burnt out vehicle poses many challenges to the Forensic Locksmith and in most cases (contrary to general opinion) sufficient evidence can be gleaned from the remains to provide an accurate account of the condition of the vehicle's security devices prior to the fire/theft event.
Maxim has provided reports for Barristers and Solicitors, Insurance Companies in Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart, the NSW and Queensland Police Services, the NSW Police Forensic Services as well as individuals since 1999. Maxim has attended the examination of vehicles in Adelaide and Brisbane.
In all cases, the focus of the examination is to determine the condition of the security devices and to expose any remaining data to determine if such evidence exists to conclusively show authentic bypass of the system(s) has occurred. The frustration of inconclusive findings is, unfortunately a possible result of any examination, though the most satisfying result in an examination is the revealing of conclusive evidence to show that the security device Was OR Was NOT defeated by illicet means - and that is the aim of the Forensic Locksmith's examination.
Some of the services offered by Maxim are;
On-site examination of recovered vehicles (intact or burnt) Australia wide.
Examination of Components/Exhibits sent to our office.
On-site examination of Domestic/Commercial/Industrial premises.
Examination of Exhibits - Locks and Keys.
Interrogation of vehicle engine immobiliser systems.
Course of Events during an Examination.
The normal course of events during an examination and reporting of a case after being instructed is as follows;
Gathering of all relevant information and keys from the provider.
This is primarily a book-keeping phase and gathering of information to identify the subject. ALL keys and handsets are requested as these may provide a great deal of information and form a large part of the final report.
The initial examination and component/exhibit recovery.
An initial examination is carried out where observations are made and components/exhibits are recovered.
Often, evidence will be identified that will indicate an authentic theft has occurred. At this time the provider may wish to call a halt to any further examination. This initial examination may also reveal that certain evidence will not be available and continuing the examination may not further the investigation and again, the provider may wish to call a halt to any further examination.
Should the initial examination prove fruitful and sufficient evidence is found, the exploration will continue where microscopic examinations and electronic diagnostics can be carried out to bring finer detail to the many aspects of the theft examination.
Final Report
The Final Report will contain an in-depth description of the entire examination process, the findings and the conclusions will be stated and supported by images and diagrams (where necessary) in a format that can be submitted in court.
